Abstract
Full turbulence simulation has been conducted of homogeneous turbulence subject to irrotational strains and under relaxation from these. The behavior of the anisotropy in the Reynolds stress, dissipation and vorticity fields has been analyzed to reveal new physics in distorting and relaxing turbulence. A model for the relaxation process is proposed for the vorticity field from the study of the structure of homogeneous turbulence.
