The Role of Therapy in the Decline of Mortality

In this chapter, an attempt is made to assess the importance of various groups of therapy, including vaccination, in the declines in the age-specific mortality rates over the past few centuries, especially since 1800. We shall see in §45.11 that there has been a great tendency among authors to antedate the effectiveness of some modern forms of therapy. See also Table 3.6.1.
