Topology, Limits, and Continuity
A topological space is a pair (X, T) (or simply X) consisting of a set X and a subset T of 2 X : T is the topology for X. The elements of T are the open sets of X, ϕ, X ∊ T, and T is closed with respect to the formation of arbitrary unions and finite intersections.
