Abstract
In Chapters 2 and 3 various classic fractals were discussed, and Mandelbrot’s idea of fractal dimension was explained. The concept of fractal dimension was extended to cover natural forms such as coastlines. It is easy to see a connection between the natural form of a coastline and a random Koch curve. However, there is also a mathematical connection between the classic fractals and natural forms (Peitgen, Jurgens, and Saupe, 1992).
