Abstract
A RECENT NEW YORK TIMES ARTICLE quoted a German official who stated that if the world does not reduce the emission of carbon monoxide and dioxide by one percent per year for the next fifty years, the potential for global warming could be disastrous. The late Bill Lee, Chairman Emeritus of Duke Power, recently made the following observation: Each night over half a billion smoky fires burn for warmth or for cooking, fueled by twigs and dung, both contributing to human and environmental deprivation.
