Abstract

Why does the sun shine? A simple answer is, “Because of nuclear fusion.” Although there is some sense in which this is a correct answer, it is at best an incomplete one. Other factors contribute to bring about conditions in stars under which nuclear fusion can take place. Still other factors are responsible for converting the energy produced by fusion into forms more directly perceptible to our senses—forms such as light and heat radiation.
