Abstract
Pelvic inflammatory disease (PID) is the most common serious complication of sexually transmitted diseases (STDs). Long-term sequelae of PID include ectopic pregnancy, chronic pelvic pain, and tubal infertility. Each year, over 1 million women experience an episode of PID, with approximately one-fifth of these cases occurring in adolescent females under 19 years of age.
