Wildebeest Model

Abstract

The wildebeest model is developed for a wildlife park on an African grassland. Wildebeest are eaten by lions and are shot by park rangers attempting to manage the ecosystem. The data on the number of lions in the park is thought to be between 400 and 600. We choose 500 for the initial runs of the model. The rate at which wildebeest are killed by the lions varies between 4.5 and 3.8 wildebeest per lion in the first 6 years of the data (Fig. 29.1)
