Abstract
Up to now, we have started always from precisely known current density distribution j(r). When we intend to calculate the magnetic field in space filled with matter we can no longer assume this. There are molecular currents, and magnetic moments of atoms and ions that are not known in detail, and whose average values are of interest only in macroscopic considerations. So, we will proceed as in the treatment of the electrostatic field in matter. The total current density is split into a part arising from the macroscopic charge transport and a part that takes into account the circular currents of electrons in atoms.
