Abstract
Examples of the theory of the last chapter, for optimisation over time, are so numerous and well-developed that they could easily swamp the text. True, the proportion of problems that admit a clean analytical solution or even a manageable numerical solution is small. Nevertheless, a DP treatment often reveals essential properties, and it should be an article of faith that natural problems have natural solutions.
