Materials Chemistry at High Temperatures

Part of the book series: Materials Chemistry at High Temperatures ((MCHT,volume 1))

Abstract

Liquid alkali metals are being used increasingly as heat transfer fluids in energy technology (1). Liquid sodium is the coolant of choice in fast breeder nuclear reactors. Potassium is being considered as the working fluid in the topping cycle of multirankine cycle energy conversion systems. Sodium, potassium, and lithium have potential for use in high temperature heat pipes.
