Abstract
Cystic fibrosis (CF) is a multisystem disease affecting exocrine gland function. Although not clearly described until the late 1930s (1), it is now recognized as the most common lethal genetic disorder that affects Caucasian people (2). The autosomal recessive gene for CF was recently isolated and cloned from the long arm of chromosome 7 (3).
