Abstract

Nonsteroidal antiinflammatory drugs (NSAIDs) are used for the treatment of inflammation—a response to tissue injury already characterized in ancient times as consisting of redness, heat, swelling, and pain (Brune, 1984). This group of agents, which has aspirin as its prototype, shares several pharmacological properties, namely, antiinflammatory, antipyretic, and peripheral analgesic actions, all of which are useful for the relief of inflammation and pain (Shen, 1984).
