Sexual Surrogation for the SCI Patient

A New Sex Therapy Alternative

Abstract

Since time immemorial, substitution or surrogation for someone (something) has been acceptable (depending on the individual’s and/or society’s moral and sexual value systems) as long as the ultimate goal is achieved. The 20th century heralded the women’s liberation movement, and in today’s atmosphere of troubled unions and divorces, people seem to be more reluctant to settle down into marriage, or to establish permanent socioemotional relationships and commitments (3). At the advent of the 21st century, there are many “significant other” persons, mistresses, and prostitutes serving as part-time “wives,” lovers, and/or sexual partners.
