Abstract
Pattern recognition plays a central role in discovery and progress in both science and mathematics. Integration involves the ability to recognize when a particular method should be applied. Every CAS utilizes pattern matching procedures in the algorithms for integration. Emphasis is placed on this aspect of the technique, thus developing, at least, the awareness of the importance of pattern recognition and presumably, leading to some facility in it. Use the openness of Maple to expose a pattern in the techniques of integration.
