Kienböck Disease

Abstract

Kienböck disease is a condition of uncertain aetiology that results in collapse of the lunate due to vascular insufficiency and avascular necrosis. It was first described in 1910 by Kienböck. The disease occurs most often in young adults between 15 and 40 years and is usually unilateral. Plain films form the basis for staging and treatment of Kienböck disease. Lichtman’s modification of Stahl’s classification is most widely used and divides the disease into five stages:
