Classic Papers in Orthopaedics

Abstract

Through the classic papers in hip surgery chapter, it is possible to trace the history of total hip arthroplasty (THA), one of the most successful operations of the twenty-first century. From the ground breaking work of Charnley to the initially poor disappointing results of first generation cementing techniques to the equally poor results of first generation uncemented implants. It provides useful insights into the institutions and authors who have contributed to the development of orthopedics and have since become international leaders in orthopedic research.
