Abstract

Considering the growing strategic importance of China for the Brazilian economy, this article seeks to expand the knowledge about the Chinese remarkable development and assess its impacts on the Brazilian economy. We chose to carry out an exploratory and bibliographical approach highlighting the process of China’s economic opening as from 1978, and the most evident effects in the commercial relationship with Brazil. It appears that China will maintain a high growth rate of the GDP. It is inferred that there will be two categories of impact in Brazil: one with a positive outlook in relation to the favorable performance of the exports of commodities and the attraction of Chinese investments in the country, and one that will challenge even more the competitiveness of important segments of the Brazilian industrial sector.
