Abstract
Cardiac tamponade in the context of percutaneous coronary intervention typically occurs as a result of coronary artery or right ventricular perforation and causes hemodynamic compromise leading to myocardial infarction or death. It may occur rapidly or insidiously and thus a high index of suspicion is required when post-procedural hypotension is encountered. It can be confirmed with echocardiography and requires prompt treatment by pericardiocentesis. Common risk factors and treatment strategies are reviewed.
