Abstract
According to the present operation of UPS in electric railway, sum up the three key problems existing in its application as follows. First, UPS performing a self-test automatically is unable to absolutely detect the failure battery. Second, in electrified railway, UPS battery keeps in the floating charge state for a long time, which reduces battery lifetime. Third, discharge time of battery is determined on the basis of battery capacity. The accurate measurement of battery capacity is getting more and more important to avoid deep discharge. However, with complex chemical properties of battery, to achieve accurate measurement of battery capacity is impossible at present. So, to solve the three problems above, an experiment has been conducted and a system has been designed on the basis of experimental data.
