Abstract

This chapter presents the Motion History Image (MHI) and the Motion Energy Image (MEI) templates, which have been in use by researchers for over a decade due to its simplicity and ease to implement with good performance. A tutorial on the MHI method is presented here. It covers the shortcomings of the MHI methods and presents various developed methods at the top of the MHI—both in 2D and in 3D. To our knowledge and till-to-date, this is the most comprehensive and detailed presentation on the MHI method/representation.
