Abstract

Prior to accepting a job as an assistant professor, one should have defined both their short-term (5 years) and long-term (10 years) career goals. Success as a faculty member can be measured using various metrics, but for the purposes of this chapter, promotion to associate and then full professor will be the yardstick. Reaching these milestones requires careful planning and institutional support, which should be included in any employment contract.
