Treatment of Postoperative Complications After Digestive Surgery

Abstract

In recent decades we have witnessed a significant reduction in morbidity and mortality after liver resection (LR) (less than 30 % morbidity and less than 5 % mortality), which is related to several factors: better selection and preparation of patients for surgery; better knowledge of hepatic surgical anatomy; possibility of calculating, prior to surgery, the minimum liver remnant volume for maintaining liver function; better instruments for parenchyma transection aimed at reducing blood loss; and lastly liver transplantation, which has developed alongside liver surgery and facilitated the training of surgeons.
