Abstract
The MitraClip may be performed safely even in high-surgical-risk patients. This case describes the treatment of a high-surgical-risk patient who has a borderline mitral valve area and heavy annular and leaflet calcification. With a single clip, the mitral regurgitation was reduced from 4+ to 1+. The mitral valve area decreased from 3.6 to 2.4 cm2. The patient had clinical improvement in NHYA functional class from III to I–II. Although there was no clinical evidence of stroke, the patient’s MRI scan showed microembolic events.
