Abstract
A brief overview of the history, and evolution of surgical treatment of heart failure. This chapter focuses on the early history of surgical procedures to address heart failure, right from mitral valve surgery, to left ventricular aneurysm surgery and then onto transplantation. There is a brief outline of the early history of heart failure.
A current view of the growing field of heart failure surgery and expanding armamentarium of surgical therapies in HF is mentioned.
Diseases desperate grown by desperate appliance are relieved or not at all. (Shakespeare: Hamlet 4. 3. 9)
