Abstract

This chapter summarizes the key aspects of Making Computerized Provider Order Entry Work while reviewing the critical success factors of a CPOE project. The author revisits his Four Principles and emphasizes the importance of bringing the physicians and staff along for the journey. He also briefly discusses the future of U.S. healthcare reform and the importance of electronic health records for hospitals to succeed in the future.
