Abstract

The book opens with a concise introduction to the field of visual information media technologies including 2D image processing, computer vision, computer graphics, and augmented/mixed reality. Then, the definition of 3D Video is given in contrast with 3D TV/cinema, 3D range/depth image, 3D motion capture, 3D animation, 3D CT image, and free-viewpoint TV/image-based rendering. The latter half of the chapter gives an overall processing scheme of 3D video production and a list of applications with illustrative examples, which can be used as a guide map of the succeeding chapters. The references summarize standard textbooks and survey papers of aforementioned related technical fields.
