Abstract

Benign and malignant tumours arise most commonly from melanocytes in the uveal tract and prior to modern treatment methodologies, malignant melanoma of the choroid was the most frequently encountered tumour in the routine laboratory. The anatomical distribution frequency of uveal melanomas is 8% in iris, 12% in ciliary body and 80% in choroid, which corresponds roughly to the respective tissue volumes.
