Abstract
St Gerard’s Secondary School is situated in the mainly working class area of Govan on the south side of Glasgow. Since the 1960s it has been a six-year denominational comprehensive school. A large number of the pupils come from districts designated for priority treatment by Strathclyde Region under the terms of its policy on urban deprivation; almost 50% are entitled to free school meals.
