Abstract

A 75-year-old-male was admitted to our department because of a high-grade left internal carotid artery (ICA) stenosis. The patient had a history of a reversible ischaemic neurological defect (RIND) with right upper- and lower-extremity paralysis and dysarthria a month before admission. Colour duplex ultrasonography revealed a carotid bifurcation stenosis with a 90 per cent reduction in the diameter of the left ICA. The right ICA was also stenosed with an 80 per cent diameter reduction. Medical history revealed no symptoms that could be attributed to the right ICA stenosis.
