Abstract
A 37-year-old woman with a history of hepatitis C, cirrhosis and oesophageal varices presented with haematemesis and melaena. The patient had an episode of oesophageal variceal bleeding 7 years ago, which required transfusion of 11 units of PRBC and had responded to sclerotherapy. She was placed on nadolol at that time.
