Abstract
Respiratory muscles, like other skeletal muscles, are subject to fatigue.1–2 This fatigue can be diagnosed objectively by observing changes in the frequency spectrum of the EMG.3 When fatigue of the respiratory muscles occurs, they can fail in their role as a pressure generator and the resulting effects upon gas exchange are potentially grave.4
