Abstract

Adaptive control systems adjust controller parameters using system response errors to obtain desired performance. Adaptive control systems are capable of accommodating system parametric, structural, and environmental uncertainties caused by payload variation or system aging, component failures, and external disturbances. There have been significant advances in both theory and applications of adaptive control (see, for example, [3], [6], [7], [22], [23], [27], [28], [39], [40], [45], [53], [55], [62], [63], [66], [67], [68], [71], [72], [75], [78], [79], [88], [90], [94], [95], [100], [101], [105], [110], [123], [125], [131], [132], [149]). The field of adaptive control continues to develop rapidly with the emergence of new challenging problems and their innovative solutions. One such challenging problem is adaptive control of systems with actuator failures, which has many applications such as aircraft and spacecraft flight control systems, process control systems, and power systems as well.
