Abstract
Unless they are associated with thrombosis of the entire internal and external haemorrhoidal venous plexus, as in strangulated piles (see next section), a thrombosed external haemorrhoid is a result of rupture/thrombosis at a single, or sometimes multiple, isolated site(s).
