Abstract
Although most patients with symptomatic haemorrhoids may be successfully managed without the need for surgery, there are still a large number of patients who require surgical excision of haemorrhoids. In our department from April 1989 to May 1998, a total of 9,693 haemorrhoidectomies were performed.
