Organ dissection — lymphoreticular system

  • Chapter
Book cover Post Mortem Technique Handbook

Abstract

For the purposes of the post mortem examination this comprises the lymph nodes, thymus, spleen and lymphatics with the majority of lymph node groups associated with organs being examined with that particular organ at the time of evisceration and block/organ dissection. More specialised and individual areas of the lymphoreticular system such as the Kupffer cells in the liver will obviously be examined as part of the organ system within which they lie and usually will only be evident histologically.
