Fault Detection and Isolation for Descriptor Systems

Abstract

This chapter is concerned with the FDI problem for descriptor systems. Due to the generality of the treatment given, the analysis also provides some insight into the properties of FDI for state-space systems which are not in descriptor system format. For simplicity, the linear systems in conventional (not descriptor) format are called briefly state-space systems. By using the descriptor system formulation, it is shown that the three main kinds of FDI problems, i.e., fault detection (FD), FDI, and disturbance de-coupled FDI are generally equivalent to the FDI problem for descriptor systems. A general problem formulation and a complete solution to the basic FDI problem are thus provided. Actuator faults, sensor faults and the more general component faults are treated in a unified manner.
