Conclusions: Choice and Use of Placental Function Tests

  • Chapter
Placental Function Tests

Abstract

Having considered the nature of placental function tests and examined some test substances in detail it now remains to present some general conclusions. Of necessity these will report much of what has already been said, but the reader may find it useful to have the thread of the argument displayed without supporting data or any systematic marshalling of pros or cons. Three things are central to the use of biochemical tests of placental function: how the tests compare with other parameters of obstetric management; what value any test has in a specified abnormality of pregnancy; and which test is most helpful in obstetric management of particular abnormal states.
