Abstract

Of all machining operations, turning and boring are perhaps the most used in industry. These processes have also been studied by researchers for almost a century, and a great deal of knowledge has been formalized in such a way that systematic control of these processes is now within reach. Industrial applications of automatic supervision systems for machining are also perhaps the most frequent for these processes. Nonetheless, the systems that are commercially available cannot be regarded as sophisticated.
