Abstract

Bronchioloalveolar carcinoma is one of four subtypes of adenocarcinoma of the lung (the others include acinar, papillary and mucous secreting), with distinct pathological features and a relatively better prognosis than other forms of lung cancer [1,2]. Malassez first described the tumor in 1876 [3] and by 1960 Liebow had coined the term bronchioloalveolar carcinoma. The name describes the pattern of the tumor growth within the lung as opposed to its cellular origins.
