Abstract

A reduction in the incidence of unusual initiating events and total system failures observed in the Accident Sequence Precursor program indicates an improvement in the risk-related performance of U.S. commercial nuclear power plants during 1969–94. However, a number of historic system failures are inconsistent with PRA models, an indication of the need for more careful consideration of operational events when developing these models.
