Abstract

Two standards exist in the object-based middleware domain: the official standard, called CORBA, and the de facto standard OLE/COM from Microsoft. Some work is underway to make them compatible. The distributed version of OLE/COM is called DCOM (Distributed Component Object Model). This is the name which will be used in this chapter.
