Safety Guidelines

  • Chapter
CO2 Laser Cutting

Abstract

Carbon dioxide laser cutting machines have a good industrial safety record. Accidents are extremely rare if the machine is operational but the risks rise if maintenance work of any sort is carried out. The major danger to life is the high voltage system used to generate the electric discharge, and this should be worked on exclusively by well trained service personnel. This and other aspects of safety will be discussed under four main headings:

  1. 1.

    Beam exposure

  2. 2.

    Fumes

  3. 3.

    Electrocution

  4. 4.

    Fires
