Abstract

One of the fundamental techniques in object-oriented programming is the use of inheritance. Inheritance is a way of creating new classes which extend the facilities of existing classes by including new data and function members, as well as (in certain circumstances) changing existing functions. The class which is extended is known as the base class and the result of an extension is known as the derived class;1 the derived class inherits the data and function members of the base class.
