Abstract

Over the last few years pancreas transplantation, in comparison with other solid organs, has experienced a most spectacular improvement in terms of graft and patient survival. This remarkable, achievement is due to a number of factors including better surgical technique, more appropriate patient selection, use of stronger immunosuppressive therapy and the application of new methods for the diagnosis of rejection.
