Abstract

Cancer of the lip arises from the vermilion border of the lip. Lesions arising from the skin of the lip are not included in this classification. Cancer of the lip occurs most frequently in those geographic areas subject to long hours of sunlight and in workers who have a long outdoor exposure. It occurs most frequently between 50 and 80 years with a mean age of 64 years and occurs predominantly in males, the ratio of male to female being approximately 12:1.
