Abstract
The main purpose of taking a biopsy is to seek a valid appraisal of its nature with a view to obtaining a diagnosis or other therapeutically useful information. The biopsy alone may provide the diagnosis or it may have to be considered in conjunction with other data (e.g. biochemical, clinical) and thus only partly contribute to the eventual diagnosis.
