Abstract
The general approaches to CT technique apply to the abdomen and pelvis as they do elsewhere in the body and have been outlined in detail in Chapter 2. Certain specific points require stressing. These involve the administration of oral and intravenous contrast material for scanning technique. The vast majority of scans of the abdomen and pelvis are performed to delineate mass lesions or in follow-up after surgery or radiotherapy. It is extremely important to have the bowel and vasculature opacified in order to delineate the extent of these lesions and exclude recurrences accurately.
