Abstract

Right thoractomy provides adequate access for operation on the right lung and the right side of the posterior mediastinum. Anterior mediastinal masses with marked asymmetry to the right may also be approached through this incision. By division of the azygos arch this approach gives excellent exposure of the whole of the intrathoracic oesophagus and trachea and is the route of choice when approaching the main carina and the lower trachea.
