Relapsing Polychondritis and Wegener’s Granulomatosis

  • Chapter
Book cover Pathology of the Larynx

Abstract

Relapsing polychondritis is a disease characterised by recurring bouts of inflammation affecting cartilaginous structures and the eye. Although the cartilage of the external ear is most frequently affected in this condition, it is the inflammation with destruction of the cartilages of the respiratory tract, particularly the larynx, which threaten life, and in most cases where death has resulted from the condition, it is from respiratory obstruction due to cartilage damage.
